The bottom line of New Testament theology is simple: God is in a good mood. Any theology of a mad or angry God at His Children is not faithful to the view of God from Christ Himself. When we try to make God into this angry God who hates believers because they mess up and thus “defame the name of Christ,” They are worship an Idol, an image of God that doesn’t exist under the New Testament.
As I read through the New Testament over 20 times and read the book of Acts monthly since August 1998 to date, 127 times; I have seen the early church was equally concerned with people losing “the touch of God” as they were about adultery, fornication, and other forms of sexual immorality. It has became clear to me that the Apostles believed that the reason that people commit adultery and steal from the collection was not they were this really bad hypocrits and false believers and worse false prophets. No, it is clear to me that Pauline theology was simple. All of this was fruit of a lacking of experiencing the Holy Spirit personally.
Some many times, revivalists and evangelists are going so strongly that they spend their time getting the “word of the Lord” for the next meeting, they forget to get the word of the Lord for their own lives. They become human doing and not human being.
At the core of almost failures in ministry is a lack of PERSONAL INTIMACY with the Holy Spirit. Nothing more, Nothing less. Nothing else. To quote Brandon from the Burn Movement.
1 Corinthians 5 tells us about putting out people for several things: adultery, crooked business, idolatry, etc. However, to understand 1 Corinthians 5, you must first put in the context of 1 Cor. 4; especially verses 14-21
Here is the context:
I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me. For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.
Some of you have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you. But I will come to you very soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a whip, or in love and with a gentle spirit?
When we listen to people who make a lifestyle out of “judgment” and “doom and gloom prophecies” we have to ask them, what power do you have for the Kingdom of God is not of talk but of power? The word there for power means literally:
• Miracle Anointing
• Moral Excellence or holiness
• Supernatural Provision
• Militant Spirit
• Gathering Anointing.
The question we must ask people who speak hateful towards other brothers and sisters in the Body are simple yet never asked:
• Tell me about YOUR miracles through the meetings you lead?
• Are you living holy or “holier than thou?”
• Are you seeing God’s manna from Heaven?
• Are you advancing the Kingdom or just complaining about others who do?
• Are you bringing together the people of God or splitting it?
Most people who never experience the presence of God who complain about everyone else who does.
I have some pastor friends in Auckland, New Zealand who are experiencing some very real and needed concerns about what happened with Todd Bentley and Lakeland in general. However, I receive their concerns over these issues because they can answer all of the questions I asked with a positive amen.
I personally have made it my position to not listen to anyone complain about Todd, Lakeland or any other ministry who does not have a miracle ministry, walks in purity, is experiencing provision, is doing something for God and rallying the people of God for true revival. If people are not doing these five things, I just don’t take their concerns seriously.
We cannot tolerate people walking in sin such as adultery, working for personal gain instead of for the glory of God, corrupt businessmen, or people who speak forth gossip in the Body of Christ. No question about that BUT equally we cannot tolerate people who think they are God’s prophet of judgment and the “man of power for the hour” just because they have a bible, a blog, and a domain. The cause of Christ is equally hurt by unanointed bloggers with a warped view of God as they are by some meltdown morally with a leader.
I pray that this list of question to ask to guard your heart and spirit from people using the internet as a pulpit to badmouth ministries is a blessing to you. I believe the teaching of Paul here would do us some good.
