I woke up like many did in America to hear about the bombing of Catholic churches in Sri Lanka. The message seemed very dark but I was encouraged by it for one reason. I know as in the days of Zephaniah so it will be in the days of Christ’s catching up.
What would the book of Zephaniah have anything to do with what happened in Sri Lanka? If you read it, you will see that destruction were prophesied and after that, there was a turning to the Lord and the people of God turned to be redemptive. Destruction brings repentance that brings redemption. In other words, Sri Lanka is going to see redemption!
Many do not realize that it was in Sri Lanka that Buddhism was started and that it is the motherland for that eastern religion. God is calling the church to redeem the nation from this false religion in the aftermath of destruction that leads humanity to inquiry.
I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place, the very names of the idolatrous priests— those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host….Zephaniah 1:5
The reality of a biblical confrontation to the people about their false idols is coming but it will be done in mercy, grace and compassion. In the time of inquiry, the saints will release the answer of hope found in Jesus Christ that makes the people burn their false idols.
Another thing that I just find interesting is that it was only Catholic church hit by the bombers. None of the Pentecostal churches were affected by it. The reason this is of interest is the history of the Catholics is one of colonization.
Their wealth will be plundered, their houses demolished. Though they build houses, they will not live in them; though they plant vineyards, they will not drink the wine.”Zephaniah 1:13
Could God be releasing judgement on the Catholic Church for their idol worship right next to the Buddhists? The Catholic church historically has been one of plunder, real estates grabs, and corruption. In at least one nation, the Frairs raped the women as the husbands were forced to build churches.
God is very serious about idolatry, in His name or in the name of a false religion. Idolatry is idolatry no matter who is doing it. All of it grieves the Holy Spirit.
The great day of the Lord is near— near and coming quickly. The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter; the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry.Zephaniah 1:1
There is coming a day of the Lord or judgement in Sri Lanka and God is raising up forerunners in the spirit of John the Baptist to shout His battle cry to return to the Lord with all your heart and mind.
Expect to see a growing prayer movement among the Pentecostals in Sri Lanka in the coming months and years as they raise up to proclaim to the nation “Rend your hearts, not your garments!” (Joel 2:13)
The End result is revival in Sri Lanka
The end of the book of Zephaniah is about restoration and redemption. After the destruction and the repentance on a national level comes revival to the land.
The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm.
As the Pentecostal saints return to making the Assembly a house of prayer and proclaiming the message of Pentecost to the nation, revival will break out in the time of inquiry. The questions people have will be answered by the prophetic nature of the saints.
The message to the faithful in the nation of Sri Lanka is quite simple. It is the story of Zephaniah and it must be proclaimed from the mountaintops.
At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame.Zephaniah 3:19
