Pentecostal Muslims? What to make of it.
According to Christian Post, there is Islamic groups in Nigeria using Pentecostal worship to keep Muslims from converting to Christianity.
According to Ebenezer Obadare from the University of Kansas they are using “new modalities of prayer, modes of proselytizing, and repertoires of devotion that closely approximate forms normally exclusively associated with Pentecostal Christianity.”
I am not sure how all this will work and I am sure that some of them will find the true power of the Spirit in their “Pentecostal like worship services.” This does seem a little odd to write about but this could be a huge open door for the power of Pentecost to hit some Nigerians.
This is reaction to Reinhard Bonnke
Probably the greatest impact on the spiritual landscape of Nigeria in recent times has been the gospel crusade ministry of Reinhard Bonnke. He has led countless millions to faith and into the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
He is winning that nation to Christ and thousands of people are claiming miracles have happened to them. They do not do with the mass exodus from Islam because people are seeking the power of God save, heal and deliver on the field with Bonnke preaches.
This is probably the most important ministry in the world right now. They are winning the nation to Jesus and it is overflowing into all of western Africa. Pray for Cfan daily and give as you can!
How much growth has happened in Nigeria?
Well, the whole Christian population was less than 20% in the 1950’s. Today, it is more than 50% with the largest segment being people who believe in Pentecost. Some of the largest churches in Nigeria are either Pentecostal or Charismatic.
The big concern that I have about the church in Nigeria is with the growth, there has become some really weird teachings. One of them guys is T.B. Joshua that is down right odd. However, people do come to Christ through his ministry.
All of that to say that I see why the Islamic leaders are freaking out and they want to copy our worship. However, it is not our worship that draws people, it is the anointing in the worship that draws them.
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” (John 12:32)
