Azusa Report started with a vision to inspire revival and report on Pentecostal news in America and around the world. That vision remains the same. Nothing has changed since it started as Herrnhut Missions back in the bible college days.
However, I have had some intense encounters over the last 18 months that has made it really process what matters in life and what is important. Things that were important are not any longer. Things that used to be very important are not even on the list today. As we grow in the faith and in encounter, this is something that happens to all of us.
I have had several encounters that marked my life forever. There are many that are directives but they do not mark life direction changes. There has several of these over the last 18 months. This is a very uncommon season. I went from 2005 to 2019 without one of this encounters on this level.
The encounters are as follow since February 13, 2019.
- Feb. 13, 2019. The family encounter
- Sept. 19, 2019. The resurrection encounter
- Feb. 20, 2020. The hospital encounter
- May 15, 2020. The angelic encounter
The four of this life direction encounters has made me really think about what is next. One thing I learned from Bob Sorge is that it is very biblical to take time to rest. I am trying time to not work on this or that but just to be a burnt offering before the Lord.
We are in a season that being a laid down lover (to quote Heidi Baker) that is in active pursuit of oil (Matthew 25:1-13) is all that matters. I just want to be closer to the Spirit than I have been for years. The storm around me does not matter when the Holy Spirit is in the eye of it all!
Therefore, I will not as active on social media to spend time in the secret place with Holy Spirit.
Prayer is key element
I am committed to be in the place of prayer more now than ever. I will be in many prayer meetings in this season. I have been for months and will continue to spend increase times in the calls to prayer. Nothing is more important to me right than experiencing the presence of God. I long to get back to my passion for intimacy like it was when I first got saved. I just want to pray, worship and evangelize.
Before me in that place of intercession is many things but what does these four encounters really mean and how to live in the reality of the encounter in the holiness of God. I expect God to reveal truth to me that matters on levels that I am not even aware of at this point.
There is 12 apostolic prayers in the New Testament and 3 of them are in the book of Ephesus. They are in Ephesians 1:17-19, 3:16-19, and 6:19. This was written to the church that had the greatest outpouring of the Spirit of all the apostolic age.
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people..
It is my prayer that I will have a spirit of wisdom and revelation in every area of life. I want open heavens in everything I do. In the presence of God, there is no lack. I want His presence to touch everything I touch. The answer to every problem is the Holy Spirit and His presence. It changes everything.
I am not going to ask God to deal with my laundry list. I am not going to cry out for more power on the gospel. I am going to simply know WHO the Holy Spirit is, not just what He does. I want to know the Spirit better and that eyes of my heart are enlightened to the hope of my calling. Nothing more. Nothing less.
It is time that we come to the Lord with no agenda, no list of wants, no motives. Do we know the Lord as well as we think we do? I would say if our shadow is not healing the sick, we have a ways to go. I am not judging anyone. I am saying I am not there and I want to be. Nothing should be as important to me than the presence of God.
Ezra is testifying
The book of Ezra is a powerful book. It tells us of a people who wanted spiritual formation (rebuilding the temple) and after they had their spiritual life in order, the nation was reformed. We can not change the nation until we are first changed. It is easy to cry out for national shaking revival but we want to pretend it does not start with us.
Gyspy Smith, an evangelist from the 1800’s, drew a circle around him and prayed the bold prayer, “Send revival and start with everyone in this circle.” It is important to change ourselves before we try to change the nation. It is time for deeper levels of holiness.
