Donald Trump has not been elected and the prophets were wrong. However, I believe there is one prophet that was not wrong about where we are as a nation. It is the prophet Zephaniah. What does this prophet from 621 BC have to say to us in America in 2021?
The first thing we know is his name and it means “Yahweh hides.” A young prophet was hidden during the leadership of one of the most evil leaders (Manasseh) in the place of prayer. If you truly believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are as dangerous as people suggest; you should be crying out in the hidden place of intercession for fresh fire and anointing.
It does not matter what type of background you have; you need to be found around the throne crying out for mercy. Zephaniah was the great-great-grandson of Hezekiah but Jeremiah that was mentored by the prophet was an ordinary man. While Zephaniah meets for God to hide (intercession); Jeremiah means for God to to appoint. You don’t have one without the other.
He gave us these three short chapters about the heart of the Lord concerning the time we find ourselves in as a nation. While America is NOT a modern Israel (Replacement theology is heresy!), we find ourselves in very much the same place in the 21st century.
Judgement is the Lord’s
The prophetic book starts out with a call to judgement. Zephaniah is talking about God’s judgements on about everything from people to nature to products of value. (Chapter 1:3-4) He goes on to attack those who worship the stars (astrology?) and those who are just indifferent about God in general.
A major theme with the prophecy is the day of the Lord. This is a common among several “minor” prophets. This is a term used to speak of the wrath of God being poured out in the earth. (Revelation 16)
Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near. The Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated those he has invited. On the day of the Lord’s sacrifice I will punish the officials and the king’s son and all those clad in foreign clothes.
God is calling us to be consecrated. We have not been committed to what is sacred. We have been given to many other lovers, one of them being the political process. We have our love for God on the list of things we love right there between Donald Trump and the Constitution. That is not consecration.
We are going to see the punishment of officials happening right before our eyes. We have seen everything from leaders dying from COVID19 to resignations in shame. God is exposing leaders who do things in deception and it does not matter what party they are part of. Expect more exposure to come in the coming months concerning leaders in every political party. There will be senators exposed for their secret homosexual affairs!
People who have tried to hide their nakedness of integrity and relationship by wearing the grab that makes people vote for them and support them will be exposed quickly as well. We can expect those who support leaders who have no commitment to biblical integrity to be exposed and stripped of their clothing foreign to the things of God. There will be a line drawn between those who follow Jesus and those who follow the Republican party.
Watch the Supreme Court. There is a modern Jezebel on the bench. She will come out and boldly reveal her evil desires to attack the prophets, the things of God and the coming revival. The veil will be off!
Call to Repentence, America
Zephaniah turns to the people of the nation and namely the capital and calls everyone to Repent. (Chapter 2) The focus starts with Judah, a kingdom in South Israel. Judah, Philistia, Cush, and Assyria are all regions that have prophetic word spoken about them by the prophet known for hiding in the place of prayer.
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger. (Zephaniah 2:3)
The way of the Kingdom of God is righteousness, humility, and faith. In fact, we are told that the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17) As a shameful nation like Judah was in those days, we must return to the ancient paths of righteousness, holiness and purity. The Lord is challenging us as a nation to repent or change the way we think about our lifestyle choices and ideals.
Much like the ancient kingdom, America still has time as well to “return to the Lord with fasting, weeping and mourning.” (Joel 2:12) The judgement of God is only if the nation will reject the call to cast down all their idols, turn to the Lord in authentic transformation of the heart, and be baptized with the fire of sanctication and anointed in intimacy (Acts 2:1-4) The judgements can be turned back at this point.
Washington, prepare yourself!
Jerusalem was far from the Lord. The leaders and the people that supported them saw no need for the presence of God in their lives. They have become a godly nation by name only but lack all lasting change of heart. The national city was full of itself. Nationalism and arrogance was the hallmarks of Jerusalem.
Zephaniah 3 starts with a strong rebuke to the capital.
Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled! She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord. She does not draw near to her God. Her officials within her are roaring lions; her rulers are evening wolves, who leave nothing for the morning.
Washington, like Jerusalem, is serving their own needs. The congressmen, senators, cabinet members and people who support their operations are there to serve their own wants and line their own pockets. It does not matter what party they align themselves with; they are self serving and full of wickedness. Many will lose all their wealth overnight as a sign in the nation.
The Lord is offended at the unprincipled prophets who are treacherous who in their own unrighteousness know no shame. (Zephaniah 3:4-5) Those who follow these prophets of Washington do the same thing that they did in Jerusalem: profane the sanctuary and do violence to the law.
If Washington does not repent of its wickedness, we know a few things that will come from the Lord. The military strength will be demolished, people will fear to be on the streets out of danger, and cities of the nation will become wastelands. (Zephaniah 3:6) Anything that exalts itself again the Ancient of Days will end up destroyed. (2 Corinthians 10:5) Watch for the breakdown of military might in America and increase in murders in our cities in intensity.
Revival is still coming!
The good news is that even Zephaniah found hope in the midst of dealing with the wickedness in his nation and we can as well. The books ends with a three stanza prophetic call to awakening. (Zep. 3:9-20) God will purify the lips of his people, (3:9) and that serve the Lord. The intercessors and the worshippers will prosper (vs 10). Our capital will not be destroyed but cleansed of all arrogant boasters in every party. Humility is how we will leave the free world. (vs 11)
The remnant of the Lord will arise and have complete trust in the Lord (vs 12) They will live in the light of holiness and will be honest in their dealing with unbelievers (vs 13) Because of their purity of heart, they will be fearless yet humble.
As those who have set themselves apart for the things of the Lord come out of hiding, a new sound will arise that set the demonized free and sinners have Damascus road encounters! (vs 14) The spirit of fear will be cast out from a people who have power beyond measure to a people without mixture. (vs 15) Many will even hear angelic beings singing over them. (vs 17)
As people of the Spirit and of power; they will not walk in legalism but in biblical holiness. As a result, the legalism of past generations will be no more. (vs. 18) The Lord is about to remove the “King James worshippers” from the landscape of faith in America!
Watch the poor and the addicted as a sign in the earth of what God is going to do. The poor and addicted will be gathered, rescue and delivered. (vs19) Those whom have been shamed by society will be honored and celebrated in the coming revival. It is important to watch the homeless community. When the revival breaks out among them and their is wide spread conversion and deliverances; the stadiums are coming! We will see a modern Acts 8!
In the midst of revival, prosperity will be released to care for the poor and the broken. (vs 20) God has promised to give us the wealth of the nations to care for the poor of the earth. It will happen in our day and in our time! Those who hate God and everything about the holy things will even show honor and value to the awakening of the nation. It will happen right before their very eyes!
A word about Eschatology
There are many views on how things will happen and I am not sure there any of us really know. I am not trying to give you a doctrine in this article. I am simply telling you prophetically what is coming for America. The best is yet to come but this does not mean that everyone will be saved. Many will still reject the coming revival, especially when it starts among the poor, the addicted and the homeless. It will offend many. However, God offends the mind to reveal the heart. He always had. Just ask King David.
